No more golden days

As fall begins to color the world around us –
I mourn the loss of color in mine.

I used to have golden days.

Shimmering, bright,
filled with an energy that fueled my world.

They used to be golden days.

Then distance set in,
‘Tween you, me and the world.
While dark greys color the hours.
And even though I set out to live –
It just feels like passing by.

Because there are no more bursts of color,
since the start and end –
of these golden days.

  1. You’re golden to those whose days you brighten.

I’ve missed most of the waves other people ride, and am still trying to catch colours I don’t feel I’ve seen at their best yet.
I figure there will be goldens and blues and freaky rusty reds and streetlight oranges and yellows waiting to surprise you…
    or even elephants,
migrating off-message pathways not unlike the ones you walk:

“Watching a documentary about elephants – about their migrations across the African wilderness… about the way they fondle the bones of dead elephants with their trunks, perhaps mourning old friends… The person sitting next to me is holding my hand with fragile fingers as we watch, reminding me of migrations we took together, in secret places they don’t make documentaries about…”

(and no, I won’t be doing that again. I don’t have a stock of these so that one day I can say: “Aha! This is a job for the soulful singing giraffe!”)
